Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assists in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiovascular and peripheral systems of patients to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disorders in the Cardiac Cath and EP Labs.
Provides quality patient care to patients undergoing invasive procedures. Prepares patient for test and explains procedures.
Assists in conducting tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular systems, using a variety of specialized electronic test equipment and recording devices.
Processes all required paperwork, has knowledge of all supplies and the contents of each stockroom.
Assists in training staff and students.
Effectively communicates with patients, family, and other health care team members. Keeps patient and family members abreast of patient's progress.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal relationship skills in interacting with co-workers, leadership, and other health care workers.
Promotes teamwork.
Monitors and records patient's blood pressure and EKG during procedures, notifying physician of changes.
Circulates during invasive procedures. Circulating duties to include patient education, alleviating fears, monitoring patient's condition, treating patient under physician direction, and assisting scrub person and physician.
Properly documents case events.
Scrubs and functions as first assistant to physician performing invasive procedure.
Properly operates and calibrates interventional imaging equipment, single and biplane units.
Responsible for operating specialty equipment.
Maintains currency of annual competencies.
Maintains emergency equipment including oxygen, airways, ambu bags, suction equipment, temporary pacemaker and cardiac defibrillator.
Scrubs and acts as first assistant to physician performing invasive procedure.
Exhibits knowledge of sterile technique and of supplies and equipment used.
Practices the principles of sterile technique during invasive procedures.
Practices departmental guidelines in room turnover, including proper cleaning of equipment and work surfaces, and waste removal.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered as ARRT with CI credential with one year experience OR RCIS with one year experience OR RCIS obtained within 18 months of employment as a condition of continued employment.
Graduate of accredited school of radiologic technology OR Graduate of accredited school of cardiovascular technology. Education requirement may be waived for a technologist who obtained the RCIS credential prior July 2013, based on Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) bylaws changes.
Able to wear lead aprons and stand for 80% of work time.
BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
