JOB DESCRIPTION: Expert radiologic technologist practitioner in knowledge and skills. Functions as clinical resource to staff. Provides expert knowledge in anatomy and physiology. Serves as preceptor for new staff and students. Provides secondary leadership for day to day operations and may coordinate daily schedules. Assists supervisor with completion of staff orientation, staff competency and development of staffing patterns. Assists supervisors in maintenance of departmental and staff documentation. Assumes supervisory responsibility in supervisor's absence. Monitors completion of procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedure. Assists with and monitors appropriateness of staff and patient care assignments. Assists with staff orientation and staff competency. Identifies and takes appropriate action for unacceptable practice and behavior. Monitors the adherence to documentation standards. Identifies need for revisions of patient and operational forms. Assists with documentation and revisions of daily procedure schedule. Responsible for safe operation of radiologic equipment. Serves as resource for staff and students. Troubleshoots equipment problems and works with vendor to identify resolutions. Escalates issues to supervisors and may report issues to service vendor. Monitors patient education in daily clinical practice. Assists with development of patient care education material. Collaborates with and serves as a resource to staff in determining procedural needs and priorities. Ensures that patient/family needs and responses are handled appropriately. Ensures that staff is informed and any concerns are handled immediately. Communicates with physicians to assure optimal patient care and resources. Assists with departmental inservices. Enhances knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments with educational programs and literature. Renews ARRT licensure and updates certification to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a bi-annual basis. Monitors procedure and supply rooms to ensure availability of supplies. Ensures adherence to safety requirements of the hospital and department. Ensures that radiation protection is used to minimize patient and staff's exposure to radiation. Ensures the safe usage of radiologic and medical equipment. May serve on departmental safety committee and/or projects. Ensures the collection of performance improvement data. Works with staff and management team to identify opportunities for improvement initiatives. Participates on departmental performance teams and/or projects. Assists in identifying staff education needs. Evaluates staff educational needs and competency issues. Works with staff on educational plan or corrective action. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and at a minimum be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be registry eligible. If registry eligible they must complete and pass the registry within one (1) year of employment. CPR certification required. Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
