This position is located 36 miles East of Atlanta on Emory's historic campus in Oxford, Georgia at Oxford College.
As a member of Oxford College’s leadership team, the Director of Communications creates, directs and manages the overall communications strategy that advances the goals and profile of Oxford College within Emory University, higher education, and to broader public audiences.
Proactively devises the public and media relations strategy for Oxford, working closely with the dean and chief of staff to craft overall message for our distinctive college within Emory.
Oversees media relations and coordinates with external agencies; seeks and coordinates media interviews; pitches and tracks appearances and mentions; writes and distributes press releases and advisories, and serves as a liaison with the University’s Office of Communications.
Collaborates with Oxford’s Advancement and Alumni Relations on overall external outreach strategy to alumni, parents, and other audiences.
Collaboratively builds and oversees clear communication to internal audiences, including faculty, staff, and students.
Manages crisis communications, serving as spokesperson as needed.
Sets policy for and manages Oxford's social media across all platforms, leveraging these platforms for student and alumni areas; Coordinates with programs, admissions and other units to convey information through a variety of modes for prospective audiences.
Assists admission leaders in promoting the college to prospective students and their families.
Directs the creative plan and daily operations for Oxford’s external and internal websites.
Writes official communications on behalf of the Dean, the college and other staff in consultation with senior leaders.
Plans and manages photography and video assets.
Sets budgets and manages the college’s Social Media Specialist, Web Developer and on-line producer.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or related field.
Seven years of related experience which includes three years in a communications or public relations position.
Progressive experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field is preferable.
Must be able to write cogently and meet tight deadlines.
Experience in higher education is preferred, as well as an understanding of a liberal arts education and the ability to convey its value.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
