The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) position is responsible for the administration, supervision, and programming for a residential area housing up to 350 students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the supervision of student staff, facilities management, programming administration, student outreach initiatives, and on-call emergency response. The departmental philosophy emphasizes leadership, service, community building, and faculty interaction. The ideal candidate should view this position as an opportunity to mentor and role model positive interpersonal and professional behaviors for students. The ideal candidate needs to possess a demonstrated commitment to diversity and working with diverse populations. A high level of visibility and interaction with students is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate a staff of 6- 11 resident assistants (RA) and 1-2 student workers

  • Counsel students with regard to personal problems, developmental issues, and housing-related issues

  • Oversee programming of RAs in accordance with departmental philosophy and considering the first and second year experience

  • Support residence hall staff programming efforts and serve as a resource

  • Attend campus events to emphasize a collaborative effort in education

  • Develop outreach program to build community and communicate hall issues

  • Assist in selection and training of student staff

  • Oversee reporting and follow up of maintenance and building service concerns

  • Complete regular inspections of area and report concerns to the director

  • Report all health, safety, and security concerns to the director

  • Oversee all administrative processes in complex (i.e.: opening/closing procedures, room changes, facilities management, programming budgets and occupancy reports)

  • Maintain and support the College’s philosophy of conduct

  • Serve as a conduct officer for the College

  • Participate in emergency “on-call” rotation and duties

  • Attend departmental and Campus Life meetings

  • Assist with departmental projects such as resident assistant training, resident assistant selection, student conduct management, and, facility operations, along with other administrative projects

  • Participation in other Campus Life and College activities

  • Opportunity to co-facilitate a first year Learning to Lead seminar

  • Participate in professional development endeavors

  • Other duties as assigned

This position is on the Emory University, Oxford College campus, 36 miles East of Atlanta.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develops, presents, tracks and evaluates educational programs for students in designed residential communities.

  • Manages the daily operation of undergraduate and/or graduate residential facilities.

  • May hire, train, and supervise interns and graduate and undergraduate resident directors. Serves as a conduct officer for the campus.

  • Adjudicates all levels of conduct cases including suspension and expulsion from the campus.

  • Advises resident hall directors on the proper adjudicating techniques and sanctions.

  • Serves as the first point of contact for students' parents regarding housing situations.

  • May coordinate Housing's involvement in campus life activities. Serves on and chairs committees to develop long range goals and strategic plans.

  • Counsels students on mental health issues, as necessary, and is involved in the referral and follow up of residents to mental health professionals.

  • Serves as a liaison between faculty, academic department leadership and students.

  • May coordinate renovation, repair and maintenance needs of designated residential facilities.

  • May teach a resident assistant class. Manages special projects.

  • Serves in the rotation of on-call staff who respond to emergencies involving students.

  • May represent Housing at admission preview days and act as a liaison with the Admission office for student visits.

  • May manage a programming budget.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling or a related field.

  • One year of residential life, housing, or programming experience.

  • A master's degree is preferred.

  • Must be able to live in a residence hall or other on-campus housing facility.
