Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Anesthesia Technician I ensures the availability of supplies for the provision of anesthesia services.

  • Sets up, stocks and maintains specialty carts and machines, anesthesia agents, and IV fluids, including the exchange of medication trays. Maintains equipment and related supplies in aseptic condition.

  • Cleans and disinfects contaminated medical equipment, retrieves medical equipment and devices from other areas of the hospital. Follows federal, JCAHO, and organizational guidelines for sterile techniques and infection control.

  • Provides towels and sheets used in procedural set ups. Attends in-services, seminars, or related educational programs.

  • Follows quality assurance procedures in the course of daily activities.

  • Assists with the training of new employees. Sets up inventories, and re-stocks specialty carts after each use.

  • Maintains an adequate supply of commonly used items. Disinfecting of Equipment -- Responsibility Description: Cleans and disinfects contaminated anesthesia machine, monitor, cables and other key medical equipment.

  • Minor Equipment Setup -- Responsibility Description: Attach accessories such as breathing circuit and suction to anesthesia machine. Prepare emergency airway equipment.

  • Anesthesia Turnover and Stocking -- Responsibility Description: Sets up, stocks and maintains specialty carts and machines, anesthesia agents, and IV fluids, including the exchange of medication trays after each use. Inventory -- Responsibility Description: Stocks supplies and returns items to departmental storeroom upon receipt.

  • Maintains an adequate supply of commonly used items.

  • Anesthesia Techs may be required to stock Medications Kits/ Cassettes, trays or carts.

  • Anesthesia Techs may be responsible for returning used and unused Medication kits/cassettes or trays to the pharmacy or other designated areas.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED), preferred.

  • and one (1) year of healthcare related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
